Describe Product/Idea:
The Skeeta Field Tent is a portable 2-man shelter; a modernization and improvement of the proven U.S. Military Shelter Half Tent (NSN 8340-01-026-6096), that was issued for decades since WW1, but discontinued due to bulk and weight.
The Skeeta Field Tent is a full shelter with zippered entry doors at each end, whereas, the Shelter Half Tent requires two Warfighters to carry a half, to be connected with snaps to form the Pup Tent.
The Skeeta Field Tent is comprised of light-weight Berry Amendment compliant materials: 70 denier, ripstop nylon with water-resistant coating make-up the tan color outer shell, attached stowage pouch, and separate floor membrane.
The other material components include: two straight, nylon zipper vestibule doors, ten 12" plastic hold-down stakes (NSN 8340-01-478-0136), six identical and loose, high-strength aluminum pole segments, that make-up two vertical poles, and two 1/8” diameter polyester guy ropes.
The Skeeta Field Tent has nylon tie loops along the perimeter to connect to the 12” plastic tent stakes, with the guy ropes attached at the top of the two vertical poles, to anchor the shelter to the ground.
The Skeeta Field Tent has the same shape and dimensions as two Shelter Half Tents combined, as well as the current military issue Insect Net Protector (NSN 7210-01-520-7136, PN 180-007), with nylon tie loops at matching locations inside, to attach the “Skeeta Tent” for enhanced insect protection.
The DLA awarded Skeeta, Inc. a contract to provide its Insect Net Protector, to be deployed over cots, suspended on wooden poles (NSN 7210-00-267-5641); This Skeeta Field Tent will enable the Insect Net Protector, to once again, be deployed in the Pup Tent “Field” configuration, attached to and suspended from inside with tie ribbons.
The Skeeta Field Tent enhanced features include sidewall pockets, and attached pouch with hook & loop closure to stow loose item. The attach pouch reverses to store the Skeeta Field Tent inside with all the components and floor membrane, as well as an optional Insect Net Protector (sold separately).
The Skeeta Field Tent benefits to the Warfighter, as compared to the current issue 2-Man Combat Tents (NSN 8340-01-452-5919, NSN 8340-01-628-9087, & NSN 8340-01-690-2885) are as follows:
The 2-Man Combat Tents utilize similar modern materials; however their arched-shape, requires shock-chorded poles comprised of several segments, with end tip connectors to fasten at the tent corners.
These long-spanned, segmented poles are vulnerable to damage, and expensive to replace. A damaged pole section could jeopardize the functionality of the tent, requiring dismantling of the shock-chorded pole to replace the damaged section.
The Skeeta Field Tent has short upright poles made with identical segments that are loose, making them easy to replace, even the entire pole with a rifle, if need be.
The 2-Man Combat Tents are fully-enclosed with two curved zippered doors that make them difficult to open immediately for rapid evacuation in case of an attack, which could jeopardize the Warfighter.
The Skeeta Field Tent, with an Insect Net Protector installed provides effective vector protection while enabling immediate evacuation on every side, which is paramount to Warfighter safety.
The dimensions of the 2-Man Combat Tents are influenced by the expensive aluminum pole sections, which contribute to weight, and cost. Consequentially, these Tents have a smaller floor area, volume, and height, and a greater packaged volume, weight and cost than the Skeeta Field Tent, even with an optional Insect Net Protector.

Describe how the product/idea will be used or what it will improve:
Dimensions:
· Shelter Half Tent require two Shelter Half Tents combined, each carried by a warfighter, to achieve the 2-man tent deployed dimensions (92” W x 176” L x 45” H).
· Skeeta Field Tent deployed dimensions are (92” W x 176” L x 45” H), and the full 2-man tent is carried by one warfighter.
Shell:
· Shelter Half Tent material is Cloth, Cotton, with water & mildew resistant treatment, weighing 8.25 oz./sq. yd., dyed Olive drab.
· Skeeta Field Tent is material is 70 denier Ripstop Nylon with water & mildew resistant treatment, flame retardant (CPAI-84) material, weighing 3.08 oz./sq. yd., dyed Tan.
Pockets:
· Shelter Half Tent does not have sidewall pockets.
· Skeeta Field Tent has sidewall pockets to stow items.
Pouch:
· Shelter Half Tent does not have a pouch.
· Skeeta Field Tent has an attached pouch to stow items and store Skeeta Field Tent with all components inside.
Floor:

Fasteners:
· Shelter Half Tent has metal snaps along edge to enable attachment to another half tent to form a complete 2-Man tent.
· Skeeta Field Tent has Nylon zippers at the two vestibule ends of a complete 2-Man tent to enable ease of access, and closure of doors.
Grommets:
· Shelter Half Tent has metal grommets along edge to enable shelter to be supported on vertical poles to form a rainfly with one shelter half, or as a Pup Tent with two halves.
· Skeeta Field Tent has reinforced button holes installed to enable shelter to be supported on vertical poles of a complete 2-Man tent, to deploy as a Pup Tent.
Poles:
· Shelter Half Tent has three wooden pole sections with metal ferrules to deploy in an upright manner. Two shelter half tents are required to have two pole sets to deploy as a Pup Tent.
· Skeeta Field Tent has six high-strength Aluminum tent pole sections with an insert at one end to deploy in an upright manner. Three pole segments per each of two poles.
Ropes:
· Shelter Half Tent has two Polyester two guy ropes to secure shelter to the ground.
· Skeeta Field Tent has two Polyester two guy ropes to secure shelter to the ground.
Stakes:
· Shelter Half Tent has ten Aluminum 9” stakes to secure shelter to the ground.
· Skeeta Field Tent has ten Plastic 12” stakes to secure shelter to the ground.

The Skeeta Field Tent is a portable 2-man Pup Tent; a modernization and an improvement of the U.S. Military Shelter Half Tent, and will be utilized for troop support in a similar manner only more effectively, due to enhanced design features, and use of modern materials.
Skeeta Field Tent material & design improvements to the Shelter Half Tent relates to the USAMRDC mission in the following ways:
The Skeeta Field Tent use of Durable, light-weight, and compactable material enable the entire 2-Man Pup Tent to be manufactured as a complete shelter, carried by one Warfighter, as compared to the Shelter Half tent that requires two Warfighters to carry the same weight to make up a complete shelter.
The Skeeta Field Tent use of Durable, light-weight, and compactable material enable the Insect Net Protector (NSN 7210-01-520-1736, PN 180-007) to be included for enhanced insect protection and utilization, while keeping the overall weight less than one Shelter Half Tent.
The Skeeta Field Tent improved design includes interior side wall pockets to stow loose items for enhanced protection and utilization.
The Skeeta Field Tent use of Durable, light-weight, and compactable material enable a floor membrane to be included for enhanced protection and utilization, while keeping the overall weight less than one Shelter Half Tent.
The Skeeta Field Tent use of two (2) zippers enables ease of access and closure of entry doors at each end, for enhanced protection and utilization.
The Skeeta Field Tent use of reinforced button holes and Nylon ribbon securing loops reduces the weight, and increases compactibility and ease of assembly.
The Skeeta Field Tent use of high-strength Aluminum tent poles without shock-cords reduces the weight and standardizes the pole sections to increase ease of assembly, and compactibility.
The Skeeta Field Tent use of two (2) Polyester guy ropes enhances the shelter’s stability in the wind.
The Skeeta Field Tent use of high-strength Plastic 12” hold-down stakes (NSN 8340-01-478-0136), are light-weight, stronger, and more durable than the 9” Aluminum stakes that tend to deform when being installed, and require additional fabrication costs to powder coat.
The adoption of this Skeeta Field Tent will enable the Insect Net Protector (NSN 7210-01-520-1736, Skeeta, Inc. PN 180-007) to once again be deployed in the Pup Tent configuration, which it was intended to do, thus responsively and responsible increasing the capabilities for the Warfighter.
